Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Hangs up on Barack Obama
President elect Barack Obama has been busy during his transition process making announcements and lots of calls. One to South Florida congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. “He goes ‘This is Barack Obama and I said ‘no, I’m sorry i’m not going to be on the 8 a-m radio news where you’re punking me and he says ‘this is really Barack Obama cause he hears that i’m about to hang up and he says ‘how can i prove it to you?’ and I say ‘I’m sorry, not falling for it’ boom and I hang up,” Ros-Lehtinen recounted.
She’s heard her share of prank calls on the radio, like the one miami d-j’s made to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro or the Canadian d-j’s who pranked former Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
After the first hang-up Ros-Lehtinen got a second call from a man who says he’s Obama’s newly named chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. “he says ‘You know, you just hung up on the next president of the United States’ and i said and ‘you’re Rahm Emanuel, sure!”
A third call to Ros-Lehtinen’s mobile phone finally does the trick when another house colleague shares a personal story only the two of them know. So how did the real President-Elect handle the situation? “He was having a good laugh, he says michelle will get a good kick out of it,” she said.
