Chicago: Tornado Warning for Kankakee and Will Counties in IL, Lake and Porter in IN

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Tornado Warning until 9:15 pm for northeastern Kankakee and southeastern Will Counties in northeast Illinois; and southern Lake and Porter Counties in northwest Indiana.
Reports say 32,000 homes are without power.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect overnight tonight across the entire area including the city of Chicago. Fox News Chicago Chief Meteorologist Amy Freeze says these storms could produce winds up to 70 mph, quarter size hail, and have the potential to create very heavy rainfall with localized flooding.

A slow moving front is producing high heat index– making it feel like the triple digits just to the south of Chicago. The high heat and humidity with an unstable airmass are likely to lead to severe thunderstorms. The areas most likely to see strong storms are North of I-80 before 8 pm. Then the strong storms spread in their area of coverage across the entire area.
