Tickets go on sale this morning for Billy Joel concert at Shea

It will be the musical equivalent of the ninth inning of the World Series. Billy Joel has been booked to perform the final concert at Shea Stadium, July 16. Tickets, priced at $52.50 and $98, go on sale at 9 this morning. Call (718) 507-TIXX or visit 507TIXX.com.

Shea closes after the Mets’ 2008 season; the team will move to a new stadium next year.

The Flushing, N.Y., stadium has been used for concerts only occasionally over the years, but some of rock’s biggest names have headlined there: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Police and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, to name a few.

Joel has never played at Shea but with this show will become the first act to play Shea Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Giants Stadium and Madison Square Garden.

Joel fans who aren’t able to get good tickets right away may want to check back over the course of the day, in case shows are added, or tickets go back on sale (sometimes that happens when purchasers’ credit cards turn out to be invalid).
